This is the time of the year that anglers start fishing the Clearwater River in Idaho for steelhead. The area has been very popular for many Western Montana anglers especially anglers from the Missoula and Kalispell area. It is a relatively short drive even though the road sometimes can be slick in the winter.

The popularity of steelhead fishing is high among anglers. If you have ever hooked into one of these fighters you know why. They might just be the best pound for pound fresh water fighters you will ever catch. Watch the video below to see Jim Johnson hook a nice steelhead with a bead hook bobber set-up. It is one of the many methods that anglers use when they fish for steelhead.

In this video Johnson explains the set-up he used and how to put it together, from bobber to the hook. We fished from shore on the North Fork of the Clearwater a popular spot for anglers. Some fish by boat, which enables them to cover more ground and if they hook a big fish they can follow it down river. Either way it is certainly a fun way to spend the day.
