Professional Angler Pat Slater’s Tip of the Week

Hi Everybody,

Is there anyone out there experiencing a little cabin fever besides me? The days are getting longer and we’ve had some warmer afternoon temps.  On those days, with the sun shining, my mind starts to wander to getting out on some open water.  Even though we have still more winter ahead, it’s a good time to check on how our boating equipment is handling the long winter, specifically the batteries. I’m sure everyone put a full charge on both the cranking and trolling batteries when the boat was put up for the season. The cold however has a way of draining that charge. I like to plug in my battery charger every month or so throughout the winter which ensures they remain fully charged. This helps prevent them from freezing and keeps them ready for that spur of the moment fishing trip on some early season open water. This is also a good time to start going through tackle boxes and checking rods and reels. We’ll talk more about those things in the weeks to come.

Til then…Be Smart, Be Safe out there!
