Fishin’ with me! That always sounds good doesn’t? Well this week you can hear the latest song by that title by Daniel Stratman. I am not a song critic but Fishin’ with me has an upbeat tempo and has a Jimmy Buffet sound to it. Take a listen I think you will enjoy it or at least it might put you in the mood to go Fishin’.

I went steelhead fishing with Jim Johnson from Hi Country Snack Foods out of Lincoln. It was undoubtedly the best catching steelhead trip we have taken. We landed over 35 steelhead in two and half days. We had a lot of success using the two fly set-up that Johnson rigged up. We ended up keeping 6 male hatchery fish. My girlfriend, Berny, smoked the two steelhead that I kept and they came out great. She used the Hi Country Trout Brine in addition to the Hi Country brine she added a frozen can of orange juice (Jim’s Idea) along with some honey and brown sugar. She then sprinkled some course ground pepper on each fillet (My Idea) and sprinkled little more brown sugar before placing them in the smoker. I want to thank Jim for a great trip. Look for a video later this week on montanaoutdoor.com that I took of us fishing the north fork of the Clearwater River at Orofino Idaho. The experts expect the steelhead run to last for the next few weeks.

The ice is off of Holter Reservoir according to Paul at the Canyon Store at Wolf Creek. Trout fishing should be excellent. The Bitterroot River is fly fishing well according to all the fly fishing reports this past week. Both Kjel Olson and Scott Anderson report that the skwala is the fly of choice. Fly fisherman are also having excellent luck below Holter Dam on the Missouri River.

The Hellgate hunters and anglers banquet will be held coming up this next Saturday March 24th at Karl Tyler Chevrolets Showroom in Missoula.
