Hey all,

Here is a quick note on the current conditions around Townsend, MT. We went out looking around on Friday and found good open water for boat fishing.  Gates of the Mountains is all open.   If it fishes like it normally does, after ice-off, it’ll be great.

We used Ghost Trolls, Blue Fox Vibrax and Rapala original minnows or Shad raps. These rainbows run about a pound and a half on up.

Also, even cooler, The York Bridge access site is open (pictured above, from FWP).  It looks like there is a passage, around the west bend, up river, past Lakeside bay and to the dam. There is a very good possibility of catching Rainbow trout and walleyes. This area was just Ga-ga for them most of last year, using 1/8 to 1/4 oz. various Woody jigs with Gulp minnows. This early the walleyes will still be lethargic, so maybe go 1/8 or even 1/16 oz.

Anyway, I’m already getting the boat ready, if your in the area give me a call. I need help catch’in these fish! LOL

Later all, Woody.
