Well the warm dry weather this past week started the low land snow melt and run off. Spent a couple evenings trying for river sauger on the Big Horn near Worland, Wyoming. Muddy conditions did us in and disappointment was evident but the warm temperature and opportunity to be out on the river had us smiling!
This weekend I did some seminars and promotional work in Billings. Great crowds, thank you to everyone who took time out to attend.
Talking about both trolling and jigging seem to hold one common theme; that being the simple fact fishing this time of year is pretty much open water “Ice Fishing”. The water is so cold the fish are still relatively inactive and moving slow. I like to start slow with my presentations, giving the fish ample time to make up its mind to take the bait. This isn’t an absolute, not much in this sport is, it is a good rule of thumb though.
Hoping to go after some Lake Trout soon in Buffalo Bill Reservoir as they move out of the deep. We’re watching the weather forecast, hoping for some calm winds so we can work the jigs. I’ll let you know if we make it out on the water.
