Last week on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show Mary Beth Kibler mentioned on her weekly report that there might be a possible ban on using live bait on the Missouri River including Fort Peck Reservoir this year effective June 1. It didn’t take long for anglers around Montana to express their concern over this. The internet was buzzing with questions and the phones were ringing off the hook and FWP. Ron Aasheim from FWP contacted the folks in charge of the rules and restrictions for live bait within FWP and it didn’t take them long to come out with a press release that basically stated “There will be no live ban on the Missouri River”. You can read the complete press release right here on montanaoutdoor.com
I started the week off with a fishing trip to Holter Reservoir with Kamp Cook and Devin Huntley. Fishing was slower than I expected but we still had enough action to keep us busy. We ended up with 14 trout in the boat. Most were in the 14 inch range with an occasional trout measuring 17-18 inches. Anglers are just starting to fish from shore. If you would like to learn what we are using when we fish Holter watch the video in our Gallery with either Walleye Wayne or Jim Johnson. They explain what rapalas and other lures we use to catch some nice trout on Holter. The fishing will only get better as the weather starts to warm up a little.
The Twisted Tea “Hot Fishing Spot of the Week” is the Bitterroot River. There are three post on montanaoutdoor.com one from Kjel Olson, one from Scott Anderson and another one from John Perry “The Mountain Man”. You can learn from each of these posts on how to fish the Root.
Also congratulations to Dave McEwen from Galata and Joe Eckerly from Great Falls the latest winners on the Kendall Four Seasons Subaru statewide trivia that we do twice every Saturday morning on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show.
