EASTERN MONTANA FISHING REPORT FOR THE WEEK OF 5/1/12

Please be advised that warm weather has been  making  precarious   high wind  conditions meaning caution should be used in the  waters .   Call the contact person in the area you are planning on fishing for current daily information. ***Bill -Rock Creek Marina   1-406-485-2560

Bill says, “The fishing has been not as good.  There are lots of bass being caught with jigs. ”   “I saw some walleye caught that were 28 inches , “ Bill explains.    They were using orange jigs with   white curly tail.  They are being caught at 8-15 feet.  The water temperature is at 50 degrees.  “ One of these days they will start hitting and you will only need a baseball bat to catch them,” Bill explains jokingly.

Crooked Creek Fort Peck Reservoir

“Fishing is just okay this week I hear,”  Bob says.  “  They  are still catching  Northerns . He informs us, “   the  water is rising and is amazingly clear. The weather   has,   definitely been a factor it has rained every day. “   My shop will now be closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

***West Side Sports – Dan 1-406-654-1611 

Nelson,  Forchette

Dan at West Side Sports tells us   .” Fishing is still pretty slow at Nelson.  The bite is just not there.  We have had  cool weather with lots of wind.”    He said, “A few are catching small northern on crank baits.  There is just nothing hitting on Forchette. ”   he says.  The temperature is up from 46 to 50 degrees.   Walleye bite is really slow.

***Deadmans and Martinsdale

Justin says,” Deadmans   has slowed. The winds have been up  everyday and blown everyone off .   ”      Water is going up in  Martinsdale   slowly.  Fishing  is still slow.

“The Musselshell river is  high as water is coming down  That is making it cloudy  ”, he says.

Tongue River Reservoir

Bob’s  says,  “  Fishing’s  slow. They are catching a few   crappie.  Some small mouth bass are being caught too.  We had a big flush of   water from snow   melt  , “ Bob explains.    “The  water  needs to be much warmer, ” he tells us. ”   The marina will be open on weekends now.”

Canyon Ferry

“   Fishing   has been   really windy and it has blown everyone off the lake this  week., “   Sharon says.   The FWP  fish netting is done.  The report says spawning has slowed.
There are 420 newly tagged fish.  They saw more females in the 16 to 20 inch range.

 ***Minnow bucket  Allen Camarillo  348-2440

Catching on the Yellowstone has slowed.    “The  river has come up by Huntley and is dirty,” Allen says.  The catfish bite is a bit better.  Cooler weather slowed things down again.   Allen has entry forms for the catfish tournament on May 12th at the shop.  It is for boaters only.

***Lake Elmo  Billings

People are pulling rainbows   and perch both by boat and shore.

                 The water level is coming up.  Fishing is poor only a few are catching walleyes.

Lewistown East Fork Reservoir

Dave says,  “Paddlefish fishing   is in full swing.  They are catching them on 8 treble hooks and snagging  them.  They are starting to catch on the Missouri.   The water is coming up ,”   He says, “Upper Spring Creek is not bad because it is less muddy from all of the rain.”   At  Spring Creek they are hitting on nymphs.
