It is the middle of a long holiday weekend. The cold front has moved in and will move through Montana this weekend. Trevor Johnson, of Kit’s Tackle, had a timely post this week on how to catch fish during a cold front. Trevor has some great information on the post, maybe I will start to catch fish when they aren’t biting.
The kokanee fishing has really picked up on a couple of lakes in Montana. Lake Mary Ronan and Bitterroot Lake along with Lake Koocanusa are producing limits of kokanee salmon. The fish from Bitterroot Lake are running 14-16 inches and Lake Mary Ronan salmon are in the 11-12 inch size. Click here to read Chancy’s Northwest Montana Fishing Report.
The king salmon bite should be starting on the Clearwater River in Idaho. A record number of salmon are expected this year. Many anglers from Montana fish the Clearwater including Bill Brown from Bob Wards in Missoula. We will have salmon reports as soon as we here the “bite is on.”
A guy in Canada had a scare when he was “doing his business.” While he was enjoying the view from the outhouse, a black bear attacked him. Not funny, but kind of humorous story – check it out on a post on montanaoutdoor.com.
The Twisted Tea “Hot Fishing Spot of the Week” ended up being a tie with Lake Mary Ronan and Bitterroot Lake for kokanee this week. Check out the Macman’s Fishing Report here.
Also, congratulations to Joe Hofer from Galata and Tom Zimmerman from Stevensville! They were the latest winners on the Kendall Four Seasons Subaru statewide trivia that we do twice every Saturday morning on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show.
