In This Weeks Montana Outdoor Wrap Up Windy Spring Weather Made Fishing Difficult
By Matt Schauer

Last week, the fishing in Montana was a little tough because of the weather. The colder temperatures slowed the spring-runoff into the rivers.  Cold fronts blew in and made it uncomfortable to be fishing. The cooler weather also was not good for dry fly fly-fishing. The Missouri River below Holter was better fishing than most rivers if you could handle the cold winds.

Paddlefish season started last week. It was slow on the Yellowstone River but seemed to be better on the upper Missouri River in central Montana. As of Saturday, May 5, Frank Siroky reported that 156 paddlefish had been caught out of the 500 quota.

The Twisted Tea “Hot Fishing Spot of the Week” ended up being a unanimous selection. McWenneger Slough (shown in the picture above) was fished by Dick Zimmer, last week, and he caught some nice perch and smallmouth bass. Click here to see his post on how he did it and a picture of his catch that day.

Bretz RV in Missoula had their annual customer appreciation day Saturday. It was another successful event with over 2000 customers served steak and chicken dinner. There were some great seminars too! This coming Saturday, their counterpart in Billings, Tour America will be having their customer appreciation day. Walleye Pro Pat Slater and All Around Outdoorsman Grant Soukup will be featured in a full lineup up of clinics and seminars.
