Angie here, from Bob Ward & Sons, with the fantastic fishin to be had in the HELENA area just in time for Dad’s Day!

I know plenty of folks who will be heading MISSOURI RIVER-way this weekend, all hoping for their best day on the water yet…& they CAN get it done, if they aren’t too reliant on DRIES. Yesss, there’s the usual but sporadic Caddis, a few Baetis, maybe a PMD or two out & about, but the weather has kept the hatches to a trickle for the time being. TRY your Gnats & Midges, but we hear the REAL luck is with Nymphs at present. Also the flows are higher than usual, up around 8800 or a touch higher, so hitting against the banks should be productive for you. The Nymphs we like are sz 14-16 Wire Worms, Red San Juans, or a Bat Wing Emerger PMD! You may want to change up the play with some Black or White Streamers, like a dark Wooly Bugger, or a White Zonker, since you got some nice depth to play in.

Still got some perky Walleye on CANYON FERRY (we hear Pond 4 & Goose Bay are smokin’ at present!) & they’re responding to Lindy Rigs or Jig Heads with Leeches, in about 14 foot of water. HOLTER has been hit or miss thru the Canyon & at the mouth of Cottonwood Creek, but some action is reported with Slow Death Rigs or Lindys in these areas. HAUSER’s been a wind tunnel for a while here, & slow to boot, so you may want to concentrate your efforts at the other lakes for now…folks are still catching Kokanee on the HELENA VALLEY REGULATING RESERVOIR…we like Cowbells…so make the trip and then prepare your best salmon fillet recipe for Dad’s Day dinner…mmmm!

In the HELENA Bob Ward and Sons STORE, our 95th Anniversary Sale’s still generating a LOT of interest, so get on in while the selection’s still SWEET, & get your summer game on, whether that game is fishin’, camping or heading for the hills! Thank you again, friends, for your business over the years! Best of Father’s Days to you (MUCH love to my own dear Dad!), & I’m back next week for more reporting!
