Walleye Biting on South End of Canyon Ferry: Helena Area Fishing Report

Hi, it’s Angie from Bob Ward & Sons, suggesting you cool off on the HELENA area water of your choice, since they are all fishing well for this 4th of July weekend!

It just might be the time to hit the MISSOURI RIVER, since anglers are backing off, a bit, with so much OTHER choice in the area. It’s Yellow Sallie time here…plenty of Caddis still as well, and PMDs are very much in the picture too. In fact, we’re hearing the best catches have been with PMD patterns…particularly some sizeable Brown Trout! Try a Lipstick Butt or Poly PMD Spinner in a 16…or try a reliable Hi Vis Neversink or Griffiths Gnat, in a 14! Go with your Pinks, Purples & Reds for nymphing in the deeper runs & around bends…Red/Brown San Juans, Pink Soft Hackles or a Rust Hogans S&M Nymph in 12-16 ought to do the trick for you!

Still got Walleye on the South End of CANYON FERRY…& a TOUCH of Walleye activity on HOLTER near the Dam, or at the mouth of HAUSER, we hear. Try FireTiger Patterns…take the family fishing along the shorelines at HOLTER or HAUSER with your Crawlers & Cheese marshmallows, or go for a little orange/yellow Powerbait! If you’re boating, troll a flashy Rapalla or a weighted line rig with flies…or look to your Leech Patterns or Crayfish & Scuds! Dip a Wooley Bugger or try an Articulated Double Bunny to get a little Streamer action going for some variety.

Remember to watch your Fireworks display in town and not pack ’em to take to the Lakes…this is a good way to bring FIRE down upon your head, & we like to keep the MT wilderness GREEN, friends! If you’re staying in town for the weekend, drop by the HELENA Bob Wards for our 4th of July Sale & get some swinging summer gear for all your adventures outdoors.

We’ll return next week to tell you more in our Helena Area Fishing Report! Stay safe & have a Happy Weekend!
