Fishing on Flathead Lake – Captain’s Fishing Report of the Week

Captain headed out fishing on Flathead lake this Wednesday with Don Beardsley from Missoula and his grandson from Kalispell Cory Jackson. They were after some lake trout and decided to use the deadbait set-up by Dick Zimmer of Zimmer Tackle.

Captain stopped by Bob Wards and picked up some 9 inch pike minnows to use in this set-up. They fished by the narrows in Bourchard Bay just off Finely Point. They anchored in in 88 feet of water to start off with and Cory caught a nice lake trout 33 inches (in the slot) so they put it back. The next hour and half was slow and then things started to pick up.

All in all they ended the day with 8 nice lake trout hooked with three in the slot, one 36 and 1/2 inches and 4 just under 30 inches. They fished in depths ranging from 88 feet to as deep as 120 and caught fish in every depth. They made it on the water at 8:45am and fished till 3:15pm. There was not much wind on Flathead lake for much of the day.

It was a great day on the water. Cory and his Grandpa Don are shown with a couple of nice mackinaw.
