Good Walleye Fishing in the Helena Area Reservoirs Report

Canyon Ferry:  Rainbow trout fishing has slowed throughout the reservoir.  Shoreline anglers are picking up a few fish near the dam using worms and/or marshmallows while boat anglers are picking up fish around Cemetery Island trolling cowbells tipped with worms. Walleye fishing has been good throughout the reservoir.  Trolling worm harnesses, tipped with leeches or worms, is working on the south end from Confederate Bay around to Hole-in-the-Wall and everything in between.  Jigging bay points is producing walleye from Beaver Creek Bay and Goose Bay to Hellgate Bay.  Trolling walleye anglers are targeting fish at depths ranging from 3 to 15 feet of water on the south end and anglers jigging are targeting 5 to 30 feet of water.  A few yellow perch continue to be picked up while searching for walleye.  Adam Strainer, FWP, Helena

Hauser:  Rainbow fishing is slow with a few being caught while trolling cowbells tipped with a worm around Black Sandy.  A few rainbows are being caught from shore below Canyon Ferry Dam while drifting Powerbait or worms.  Walleye fishing is inconsistent with the best bet being at night in the Causeway while using jigs and leeches. The Lakeside area has produced a few walleye as well.  Troy Humphrey, FWP, Helena

Holter:  Rainbow fishing is still providing some action in the lower reservoir from Split Rock to Holter Dam while trolling cowbells tipped with a worm 20 to 25 feet deep. Shore fishing for rainbows is slow.  Walleye fishing is good with the best action occurring from Split Rock to Holter Dam. Cottonwood Creek and the Sleeping Giant areas are producing walleye as well as some nice perch catches.  Using jigs or bottom bouncing with worms or leeches in 10 to 15 feet of water have been working the best.
