Hot Weather Ahead, Time to Hit the River: Helena Area Outdoor Report

Hi, it’s Angie from Bob Ward & Sons, with another week of STELLAR fishing in the HELENA area outdoor report!

We’ve got some SCORCHER days coming, so you could do a LOT WORSE than getting on or near some cooling water…like the MISSOURI RIVER, for instance! You’ll be in time for Mayflies (the BIG ones are in the cool of the early evening, too!), Pale Morning Duns, & Caddis…the Caddis are so thick and productive, you can fish all day with just those patterns! Try on a Griffiths Gnat or a Para Wulff for “size”…or your latest Emerger pattern…speaking of size, keep your bugs in the smaller range this weekend on the MO, say,16-20s!

You’ll have to go VERY deep for Walleye now, so if you got the TIME, it’s a worthwhile pursuit at CANYON FERRY…we still hear it’s all about the South End of the Lake! For some variety, try below all three Dams, with your Jigs or Crankbait, & you’ll have to get your bottom bouncers into play! Look to your Leech Patterns, Crayfish & Scuds on HOLTER, or chuck some big meat: Wooly Buggers, Fatheads, Swimmin’ Jimmies in Rainbow, size 0-2…that will get their attention! Still some KOKANEE to be had on the HELENA VALLEY REGULATING RESERVOIR, get your baby shrimps stocked up & c’mon up!

DIP on into the Helena Bob Wards on July 14th, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm for a Calling Clinic sponsored by Weston Clark of Mossberg Game Calls…it’s not TOO early to start thinking of how GREAT your fall adventures are going to be! Check out our latest Summer Sale items, it’s never too late to get the fishing gear you want at Bob Wards! Stay SAFE, and stay COOL this weekend, friends–we’re back atcha next time!
