King Salmon Are Biting On Fort Peck and More in the MORS Weekly Wrap Up

Most of Montana finally had a nice cool off from the hot weather this past week. On Thursday and Friday, a cold front moved into the state and the temperatures dropped into the high 70’s and low 80’s.  This was a lot cooler than what the temperatures had been. It looks, however, that next week we will be back in the 90’s for the daytime highs.

Gene Moore, of Lakeridge Motel and Tackle Shop on Fort Peck, said the king salmon fishing has been hit and miss at the face of the dam. Some days nothing bites, but the next day, he reported anglers caught up to five salmon. These salmon are running from 12 to 29 pounds, so when you hook one it is a lot of fun. Moore also reported the walleye fishing continues to be good around the dam at Bear Creek and Duck Creek.  Read the full Eastern Montana Fishing Report Here.

Fire restrictions are starting to pop up across Montana. It appears that much the state is very dry so be careful when you are camping. Be sure to know what “Stage” your area is in too!

The Twisted Tea “Hot Fishing Spot of the Week” is Lake Koocanusa. Tammy, of Northwest Sports, in Eureka, reported that the kokanee are biting really well and they are up to 15 inches long. She said in her weekly report that trolling seemed to work the best.

Also, congratulations to Brian Lundberg, of Trego and Vickie Laveque, of Kalispell! They were the latest winners on the Kendall Four Seasons Subaru statewide trivia that we do twice every Saturday morning on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show. Have good week and be safe!
