“Fishing is really hot. It is just plain hot for northern, walleye and bass,” Bill says. “Clay from Pikemasters and I each caught 62 and 64 northerns. We caught 3 walleyes and 5 bass. But we were fishing for northern specifically. Every walleye fisherman I have seen has gotten their limit for walleye. They are catching walleyes using worms and bottom bouncers. Northern pike are liking cranks or casting,” Bill explains.

The Captain took picture of Bill Hinrich holding a pike they caught last weekend.  See more pictures and read the Captain’s full report from there trip here.

Lucky says, “There is a concern about the water level but it is still fishable.” “Fish the narrows for bas, “ he says. The northern bite is exceptional.

At Crooked Creek people are catching pike and walleye. They are using cranks, jigs and crawler harnesses and finding them at depths of 15 to 25 feet in the majority of water.

Northern Pike and small mouth is consistent and steady. The walleye are biting at 25 to 30 feet. Northern pike are biting on fire tigers. Look for pike at 16 to 20 feet. Find the smallmouth in the shallows now. The color chartreuse is catching walleye.

Gene says, “I saw big walleye yesterday 5 to 9 pounds that fishermen caught. They all got their limit. You do well mainly at night. Go a couple hours before dark to ten or eleven,” he says. The small mouth and northern pike are being caught at the lake. Spoons and cranks are working but bring lots of them for losing,” Gene says.

***West Side Sports – Dan 1-406-654-1611

Nelson, Forchette

Dan at West Side Sports tells us, “fishing is the same on Nelson. They are still finding bottom bouncers, and crankbaits are working . Crawlers are working for northern also right now.” Dan says it takes, “a bit longer to catch some days.”

Forchette is a bit slow. The guys are using bottom bouncers on walleyes there too . Pike are biting on cranks. “The weather is cooler but things have not changed much yet,” Dan explains.

***Deadmans and Martinsdale

Not many people on the water. Super low so have to have a small boat. Martinsdale’s worm fishing is poor from shore. People are catching rainbows. The river is producing browns.

Deadmans trout fishing is about the same. No anglers were doing much.

*** Tongue River Marina & Scheels

Tongue River Reservoir

Nate says, ”On the Tongue bass are good. The water is low but fishing is still happening.” Walleye are good right now ,if you know the water. The fishermen who know the water well are still limiting out. “You can really hammer the bass,“ Nate says

*** Silos Marina Sharon 266-3100

Canyon Ferry

“Lots of perch being caught all over down here. People are still fishing the Hole in the wall. They are catching them from Hellgate on the East side all the way East and West,” Sharon says. “Lots of trout being caught too. Walleye fishing continues to be good. Someone caught a 17 pound fish at Cemetery Island. The shore is good as well.”

*** Minnow bucket Allen Camarillo 1-406-348-2440

“Bass are being caught on the Yellowstone with cranks, tube jigs and spinners,” said Allen. “From Huntley to Custer I hear they are catching. Fishing off the dam has brought out nice 2 pound fish,” Allen says. They are catching walleye and sauger all the way to Custer using a leadhead jig with a whole big minnow .

***Lake Elmo Billings

Nate at Scheels says, “some small mouth bass are being caught. Fishing has slowed down though.” Plastic worms are working and off shore fishing is still happening.

***Cooney Nate at Scheels, Billings

“Fishing is pretty good right now for walleye and surprisingly also perch,” Nate says. The perch have been 7 inches to 12 inches long. Jigs are definitely working. Fishing is still happening even though the water is low. The Marshall Cove boat ramp is closed because of low water.

***Don’s Charlie 1-800-879-8194

Lewistown East Fork Reservoir

Charlie says, “Crooked Creek is producing 10 to 14 inch walleye threading worms.” Fishing on Spring Creek using blue wing olive flies is good in the afternoon. They are using parachute caddis as well. “On the river sauger, catfish and walleye are working on crawlers,” he says.

***Scheels Lucky Bethol

Petrolia is very low but if you can get on with a small boat the perch fishing is really good. If you don’t have a small boat fishing off shore is awfully good. It is a small reservoir but good fishing.

Lucky says, “If you go on the Yellowstone be very, very careful there are lots of things to look out for. Pay attention to navigation, it is key but the fishing is really good. Just be careful.”
