On opening day of archery season, Bryan McCravy, of Missoula, shot a nice bull (shown in the picture above) in Montana.
The Captain asked McCravy to share a little about his hunt. Here is his recap:
On the opening day of elk hunting season, the smoke wasn’t as thick as it had been the previous few days. I left the house late, a quarter after 8:00 a.m. and pulled in the parking lot for the trailhead by 9:00 a.m. By 1:30 p.m. I had this bull down and quartered in game bags. I hauled the three quarters, I wasn’t packing out, a little distance from the caucus and gut pile and hung them in a shaded area. I had the back straps and one hind quarter out by dark, so I was a long ways back. The next day a couple of buddy’s and I went back for the rest. There were wolf tracks around the caucus and the gut pile was gone. It was my lucky day the wolves, or something else, didn’t find the quarters I had left. By 5:00 p.m., all the meat was back to the truck and it was time for a beer. Happy hunting.
