John Perry, of www.JohnPerryFlyFishing.com.com reports that right now the area rivers are fishing extremely well. From the Bitterroot, to the Blackfoot, to the Missouri River. September fly fishing has been awesome.
Try fishing the Bitterroot River from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and you will have the best luck. The smoke and haze has actually improved the fishing on the Bitterroot. Try using small hoppers and October caddis or a fly that imitates a bee or wasp.
The Blackfoot River is where you will have the chance to catch some bigger fish. Try using a chubby chernobyl or an ant pattern for best results.
The Missouri River is weedy, but the fishing is still pretty good, if you are not using nymphs.
On Clark Fork River, the fish are smaller, in the 10 to 12 inche range. Occasionally you might catch a 15 inch fish by using a skwala looking pattern or light green pattern. Don’t be concerned about the water temperature because the cooler nights are really making it nice for the fish and better for your fishing during the day.
