Trout Active on the Clark Fork River: Montana Fishing Report

The Northwest Montana Fishing Report is provided by Chancy at Snappy’s says Lake Mary Ronan

The Flathead River is fishing really well on the main stem and all the forks. Water temps have come down and the fishing is great at night. Caddis humvees and hoppers tracker patterns. The Clark Fork (shown in the picture above) is doing well for rainbows, browns, and cutty’s with tracker patterns, Caddis, and hoppers. Tobacco River and Grave’s Creek towards Eureka the salmon are starting to run out there, actual snagging season doesn’t start until the September 15th. Folks been spin fishing using panther martins and fly fishing with skuds. Middle Thompson been producing pike in the 2-5 lbs range and kokannee is doing well also. Horseshoe Lake has had a few of those big Tiger Muskee in the 40 inch class. Van Lake down the Swan rainbow fishing been really good. Lot of reports from Lake Mary Ronan on the perch. September 22nd is customer appreciation at Snappy’s with free lunch and seminars starting at 9am.

Holter is still doing well on trout with cowbells and flashers in 20-30ft of water. Walleye fishing is slowing down, doing better in the evenings, but getting a lot of slot fish. Piskun is getting a few Northerns, Bynum still doing well on perch and some trout. Francis has slowed down and turned into crank bait over night crawlers. Tiber out of the south bootlegger end has a good bite going on for walleye. Fresno been pretty quite. The river is still pretty mossy.
