Bob Culp and Chuck Harnist, of Frenchtown, hunted elk with the Captain on opening day of the Big Game Rifle season in Montana.  They were hunting in Southwest Montana where they have had some success in past years on opening day.

“There are a lot of hunters in the area that we go to on opening day so if there are any elk they get pushed around pretty good so we feel our chances of getting a shot is good”, said the Captain.

That is exactly what happened around 11am when Harnist made a nice shot on this 5 point bull elk.  It took five hours for the Captain and Harnist to pack it out.

The folks at the wildgame processor in Dell told the Captain that area hunters had decent success on opening weekend. The elk they were receiving were coming in from just about everywhere within a few mile radius.
