Beartooth Powder Guides (www.beartoothpowder.com) is a new business starting up in Cooke City that will cater to backcountry and cross-country skiers as well as snowmobilers this winter. In addition to offering a guide service, founder Ben Zavora will also provide two lodging options. One is a backcountry cabin available to skiers and snowshoers about 2.5 miles from Cooke City. The rustic Woody Creek Cabin will sleep 10 while providing access to nearby skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. For snowmobilers, skiers and snowshoers, Zavora is also setting up a yurt above Companion Lake on the edge of the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness north of Cooke City. Eventually, Zavora hopes to have three places to stay allowing visitors to tour from one site to the next and make a loop route. As the name of the business implies, Zavora will also offer his services as a snowmobile and ski guide to Cooke City-area visitors. To learn more about the services Zavora is offering, see my story in The Billings Gazette at http://www.billingsgazette.com/lifestyles/recreation/ or check out the Beartooth Powder Guides website.
