Canyon Ferry Reservoir Fishing

Time for Streamers with Fish Stacking In Deep Pools: Helena Area Outdoor Report

Hello, Angie from Bob Wards here, & in spite of the welcome chill, or maybe CUZ of it, fishing’s still strong in & near HELENA!

You’ve got the MISSOURI, with a fair Baetis hatch kickin’ in for the dry fly guys, & a good show going on subsurface, with your Hackles, PMD Emergers or Olive Beadhead Pupa! Near the dam, Streamers are successfully swinging…try a Bling Minnow, a Whitefish imitation, or a Tan Fathead in sz 2 to excite some action! The water is steadily cooling in spite of the occasional warmer afternoon, which will lead to some great fish stacks in the deeper pools as fall progresses.

The Lakes, CANYON FERRY or HOLTER & HAUSER in particular, will be ripe for a little Streamer action, as well…strip some big Uglies, even something articulated, maybe a bling-y Double Bunny or an Olive SculpZilla, or a Black Krystal Bugger in a sz 4. It’s Worm season as well, so go imitation or go real, but don’t forget to bring your crawlers! Brass colored, Black or Gold spinners have been working well, or Fire Tiger pattern crankbaits are CHOICE, too! Just about anything goes right now, continuing on up to extreme weather….so get out there!

If you can’t get out, get IN to the Helena Bob Wards & get yourself some rugged & warm Fall clothing, to brave the dropping temps and the much colder water. Get new waders, new lures, or get a look at what’s coming up for ice fishing…we’re getting the goods in, just for you! We’ll tell you what’s fishing again next week, friends.
