TEMPERATURE TAKES A DIVE WHILE HARVEST LAGS IN WEEKEND FOUR
BOZEMAN—Hunter numbers fell slightly between weeks three and four with 1,038 hunters coming through Region 3 game check stations over the weekend compared with 1,213 the weekend before. Overall success in harvest was down to 5.5% with the best numbers seen at the Cameron station.
Biologists and volunteers staffing check stations noted numerous hunters commenting on the especially cold temperatures which set in Saturday. Meanwhile, most hunters reported seeing lots of sign, while many saw groups of elk.
Here’s a look at the data:
Once again, Silver City checked the most hunters (375) and Mill Creek saw the fewest. Hunters had the most success while targeting mule deer bucks and the least success harvesting does.
