For all you waterfowl hunters out there, the Tiber Reservoir, also called Lake Elwell, boasts some pretty good duck hunting. Field and Stream Magazine recognizes the Tiber Reservoir, located approximately 20 miles southwest of Chester, Montana, as a “Reservoir Duck Hotspot”. People come from all over to hunt waterfowl at this particular location.
This man-made reservoir was originally created to provide flood control and improve irrigation for dryland farms. See excerpt below from www.publiclands.org:
The Tiber Dam, on the Marias River was constructed in 1969 to improve irrigation for the large dryland farms in the Missouri Basin. The project also provides flood control and water for the city of Chester.
Not only are the duck and goose hunting great at the reservoir, but the Fish, Wildlife and Parks also hosts walleye fishing tournaments in the summer there, too.
