Too Warm For Baetis On Missouri River: Helena Area Outdoor Report

Hi, Angie here, for Helena Bob Ward & Sons…now that you’re full of those good Thanksgiving foods, it’s time to hit the water for some solid fishin!

We’ve got the MISSOURI, not having a lot of success with Baetis in the recent warm spell, but with a cold front pushing thru in the next week, the hatch ought to start up again nicely for you dry fly guys…Wolf Creek is seeing some of the larger fish reported on the MO, & they’re being picked up from the deeper runs with Zonkers, Flash Fry or Minnow Pattern Streamers…whites & lighter colors look good! Try Baetis Emergers, Red/Brown San Juan Worms or Glass Bead PMDs for subsurface action…pull on the technical winter jacket you got from Bob Wards & come on out! It’ll be plenty chilly but not too crowded.

The Lakes are a long way from freezing over yet, & the shore or dock fishin’ has been darn decent…on HOLTER or HAUSER, Crawlers with flavored marshmallows (we like the Garlic), Powerbait, or any of your big uglies should do the trick! Swing your Streamers out on the water….Woolies or baitfish imitations will work nicely! You might be out in some windy & snow-blowing conditions with the colder weather, so be prepared!

Helena Bob Wards wishes you and yours a safe & satisfying Thanksgiving weekend, whether you spend it hunting, fishing, or SHOPPING! We can set you up for any of those 3 pasttimes—come join us for Black Friday or weekend savings…you’ll be glad you did. Back next week!
