Hi, it’s Angie from Bob Ward & Sons in HELENA…ya think it’s finally WINTER in these parts?

The MISSOURI RIVER will take ANY of your winter best….try Nymphing Glass Beadheads, PMD Emergers, Hot head Scuds, & the famous San Juan Worm…they’re all just KILLIN’ the trout, so make sure your box includes all of these…no ice shelves reported yet, but you want to stay out of windy areas anyway, & there is likely to be some slush to contend with…weekend weather calls for SNOW, but that seldom deters a MT angler! Streamers have had their success as well, especially midday…try flashy & white or anything darker as well, it all seems to be working just fine…White or Copper Zonkers, Gold Bling Minnows & Tan Fatheads have all been in use! Swing smoothly, don’t jerk your fly or try anything too hasty, & the rainbow will be there for you.

While Harrison Lake & others wayyyyy up in the hills are ready for ice augers, CANYON FERRY’s not quite there yet…there’s plenty good Ling Fishing below the dam & at the Causeway, however, we hear! Give us a bit more of this bitter weather & some snow, & it’ll be time for drilling & sitting in your shacks telling tall tales while the fish just line up for your jigs…always a good time.

Just dying to head for the mountaintops? GREAT DIVIDE ski area is operational with adventure skiing on the Upper Mountain on 10-30 inches, & groomed snow over good machine base on the Lower. Snow continues to fall & after THIS weekend, the resort will be in tiptop shape! SHOWDOWN opens Friday the 7th with 3 of 4 lifts operating from 9:30 to 4 PM.

Drop in on our weekend sale & get your SPORT on…whatever you’re into, we’ve got for ya! Fishing, hunting, skiing…something for everyone here at the Helena Bob Wards. Save Santa some time & effort, & pick up ALL your gifts at Bob Wards this year! Stay warm, be good, & get outside! I’ll talk to you again next week!
