After recently hearing about a vigil being held for an elk that was killed by a police officer in a residential neighborhood in Colorado, click HERE for that story, another similar article caught my eye.

With the wolf hunting debate in full-effect nationwide, a group of Wisconsin pro-wolf advocates are holding a memorial for the 117 wolves that were killed during the state’s first wolf-hunting season in 2012.

According to an article posted on the Wisconsin’s WBAY television station website (http://www.wbay.com/story/20540197/wis-animal-lovers-plans-memorial-for-dead-wolves),

“Organizer Deanna Devaul, a member of the Alliance for Animals, says the memorial is scheduled for Friday afternoon in front of the state Department of Natural Resources headquarters in Madison.  She says the proceedings will include candles, bell-ringing and a poem honoring the dead wolves.”

You can expect that memorials will also be held for wolves killed during wolf-hunting and trapping seasons in other states, as I have seen RSVPs available via Facebook for at least one other gathering.
