Butte wants you to know that there’s good fly fishing below the ice flow of the BIG HOLE, BEAVERHEAD & JEFFERSON RIVERS…BIG HOLE is free of ice below Jerry Creek & the Divide Bridge Area, where Beadheads & smaller San Juans have been the flies of choice! On the BEAVERHEAD, try Red Whitefish flies tipped with a maggot, using a spin rig & casting bubbles. CLARK CANYON has been real good down on the south end near the Red Rocks inlet. Vertical jigs of all varieties have been great, fished in the river channel. Reports of 3.5 to 5 lb fish have everyone excited here! One of our excellent Butte citizens took the time to shovel the drift out and open the road from Homestake to DELMOE this week…Worm Harnesses & Maggots have been working well at DELMOE, so come on over!
Get up early to DISCOVERY & be the first to lay some new tracks in the fresh snow that is due this weekend! 38″ at the base, & 56″ at the top, with 90% of the terrain open & ready with ideal conditions!
Bozeman says even tho the weather has been inconsistent, there’s plenty of good fishing going on! On the UPPER MADISON, Stoneflies with Baetis droppers in the slower drifts have been big-time successful, or try Egg Patterns or some of the big Midge Larva…on the LOWER MADISON, watch for wind warnings & stay off the slushy floes or icy shelves, & look for a few midge swarms in the warmer part of the day…on the GALLATIN, stick to smaller Baetis Patterns for best luck! Big Sky to Cameron Bridge has coughed up some nice fish, so try anywhere in the area!
While up in the Big Sky area, spend some time on the slopes as well…both MOONLIGHT & BIG SKY RESORT are reporting 56″ & 53″ at the summits, respectively, & fresh snow anticipated this weekend! BRDGER BOWL has 60″ of the good stuff, so that’s a superb choice as well…get plenty of choice skiing done this weekend!
