Hi, Angie here, with the best area fishing for BUTTE & BOZEMAN:

The warmer weather has anglers on the RIVERS in the BUTTE area, with the BIG HOLE & the BEAVERHEAD as choice spots.  The JEFFERSON has been pretty good as well.  Night Crawlers, Egg Sacs, Panther Martins, Mepps or Rapalla lures…these have all been heavily in use, and working well!  Our advice is to use fluorescent colors on sunny days & darker browns, olives or blacks when it’s overcast.  Warm Springs Creek has been good for you fly anglers this week, throwing Czech Nymphs or Red Spot Shrimp in szs 12-16.  Bobs Sparkle Backs or Flashback Nymphs have worked well, too.  Below Pipe Organ on the BEAVERHEAD has been particularly good for sz 6 to 9 Gold, or Black-&-Green Panther Martins.  Small Serendipity flies, sz 18-20, have been sensational as well.  As far as ICE goes, DELMOE & CLARK CANYON have remained hugely successful, with GEORGETOWN reporting just fair fishing on the remaining ice for now.

The spring skiing is deluxe at DISCOVERY, where they picked up 4 more inches of snow this week.  Powder & packed powder are the conditions you want this time of the year, & DISCOVERY has plenty of both!

Anglers of all ages love the BOZEMAN area rivers, with the GALLATIN leading the charge this week as one of the go-to places…Egg Patterns are producing here, with the Rainbow spawn just weeks away…the milder days have seen some Midges swarming, which is not surprising, so load up on a few small Midge Dries when you head out.  The UPPER MADISON has been remarkably consistent & good, but you may have to look for some slower pools to get the majority of the action…on the LOWER MADDY, double up your larger nymphs like Sculpins or uk Bugs with tiny CDC Baetis, Pink Lightning Bug or Egg Pattern droppers…Streamers are also a big deal, if you keep them darker in color & strip ’em slow…on the YELLOWSTONE, dead-drift a Wooly Bugger or a small Stonefly Pattern, & Hares Ears & larger Princes have had some success too!

ski-bozemanBIG snow early this week has done it again on BRIDGER MTN, as well as up at BIG SKY & MOONLIGHT…the Spring skiing couldn’t be better, so get on up to any of these resorts for some of the best skiing around…powder & packed powder galore awaits YOU!

New spring items have been arriving at the BUTTE & BOZEMAN stores for a bit now, so you MUST stop by & see what’s new for 2013!  We’ve got all your spring activities covered, whether you play baseball, soccer, golf, or just need the latest & greatest fishing gear available!  If you want a chance to win a new truck to haul you to any of your favorite outdoor haunts, purchase a $5 raffle ticket when you’re in the store, proceeds going to Special Olympics of Montana…you can’t beat a deal like that!  We’ll tell you much, much more, next week!
