Hello, Angie from Bob Wards to get you excited about fishing the HELENA area waters this week!

The store staff says the Helena Holding Reservoir is still holding ice; it is the last place with ice and should still provide some decent kokanee fishing. However, with somewhat mixed warm & cold weather this week,  please be safe and aware of the ice conditions!  Spring fishing has arrived,  and is going to be in FULL SWING shortly…which means walleye fishing will pick up with some constant nice weather.  Putting your watercraft in at the Gates of the Mountain, and running up river in the spring time can be consistently rewarding!

All types of fishing are very productive, whether you are the “Bounce a worm off the bottom” style-angler, or  a fly fishing addict!  The MISSOURI RIVER is nearly always a hugely successful fishery in all seasons, & just might be the place you can catch your fill when other places are more picky,  especially with these wacky weather patterns we’ve been having. Nymphing is traditionally a great option and we’d recommend trying a Black or Purple Leech pattern or an Olive Colored Streamer. The browns have been hitting these Streamers in shallower water,  where they are out feeding on smaller fish. If you’d prefer to throw some dry flies…try throwing some adult Midge Patterns or some Royal Wulff stimulators.  The Boulder River is FINALLY getting some solid water temperature increases, and the rainbows have started to bite. Try fishing some of the faster runs by throwing in a Goldenstone with a Copper John trailer. For Dry flies,  I’d stick to Caddis or Gnat patterns.

learn_to_snowboard_on_spring_breakGREAT DIVIDE has been getting snow, and is looking like it is going to get colder with even more snow this weekend!  We’re getting to the tail end of the ski season so you just gotta take advantage! College Students,  just show your Student ID and can get a $20 ski ticket for the remainder of March!

I also know DISCOVERY SKI AREA  has been getting snow last weekend and is looking like it may get more snow this weekend as well. DISCOVERY can provide some outstanding skiing that can challenge just about everyone. It may just be that this weekend! Don’t miss out.

It’d be a shame to miss checking out the new-for-Spring rods, reels, boats & lures now arriving at the HELENA Bob Wards store!  Anglers are the naturally curious sort, & we know you’ll want to see what’s new, so stop by and hang with us a while!  We’ll show you around, & tell you everything we know about area waters & your best chances!  Listen up next week for more fish stories from Helena!  Until then, best of luck on the water, friends!
