I was out this weekend and drove from Thompson Falls to Bozeman, then over to the Missouri River and Back to Thompson Falls.  I like to get out and see Montana at this time of year and hit a few of the rivers that I like to fish.  The lower Clark Fork was looking great.  I followed it for 110 mi.  Fish were rising, but I had to get to Missoula for an oil change.

Missoula is starting to warm up and the fishermen and women have figured it out!  The Bitterroot River will just bet better with every day.  Some reports of the Skwala Stone Flies moving around gets the Missoulan’s blood pumping.  I would suggest wade fishing the river at this point.  Try using pats rubber legs, pheasant tail nymphs, and the dirt snake.  If you are after the dry fly fix try a midge, Griffiths Nat, or a purple haze.   Streamers have been working pretty well.  Just get out on the water and have a good time.  Like always be aware of your surroundings and how the river flows.  The last thing you want to do is find yourself in the drink in spring time conditions!

Warm Springs is fishing ok, but you may want to put this drive off for a few weeks and stay on the Bitterroot.  On the other hand you could driver to the Missouri River and get hooked up on many of the rising rainbows!

I was just on the Missouri   River this past Saturday and did very well.  I took my drift boat and rowed around below Holter Dam.  I took fish on small scud patterns and anything you have that resembles a midge.  I left the streamer swing to the other two hundred anglers on the MO!
