Spring is in the air this week on Montana Outdoor Radio Show. Ice is melting off the lakes and Squala’s are hatching. Geese are migrating north and if you have ever been curious to see the migration from a bird’s eye view, check out our post on Freezout Lake aerial views here.

Young wildlife is venturing out, including two young mountain lions that found themselves without mama and in a very precarious situation perched atop a fence surrounded by coyotes. If you missed the post earlier this week these photos can be viewed here. The pictures snapped and posted by US Fish Wildlife Service hit over a million views just days from posting. If only we knew the outcome of these young cubs.

An unusual Pacu FISH drew an enormous amount of interest on the MORS site with photos of its human-like teeth that they use to crack nuts and fruits. Read the whole post here.

Our neighbors to the North in Canada have provided us with some great footage of a rare event that has monster Rainbow taking over the lake system around Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. The interesting video and post can be found here.

And if you are looking for some last minute Easter dinner ideas, check out  what Montana Grant has planned for supper. Preview to his family feast including desert S’mores made with Peeps on his post here.

March 30th Fishing Summaries

Access on Holter is up to a mile and ½ down Holter when you put in BLMCampground. Hellcreek is only about another week out from open water. Ice on Nelson is still holding out, but a bit shallow in areas. Clark Canyon Reservoir ice has broken up to the south side of the Island. Nicer weather near Eureka is yielding ling, and some nice sized kokannee on the reservoir.

Big Hole River and Beaverhead in Butte are doing well according to Angie at Bob Wards.  The rainbow spawn is on in Beaver Creek and Helena area.

Squala hatches are coming out in numbers, Browns Lake is still frozen, and March Browns are starting to show up on the Bitterroot. Ice is close to melting off in the next week or so at Rock Creek Marina. Brett French Outdoor editor of the Billings Gazette says the ice is receding from the banks. Chancy at Snappy’s says the ice is pretty much gone in the area.  Most of the valley floor lakes are opening up, but not a lot of reports just yet. Dale from Don’s in Lewistown says the ice is off and Ackley Lake 2-4 pounders are in the deeper water.
