Bozeman Rec Report
We’ll start with fishing on the Upper Madison. It has been good using stonefly-beadhead dropper rigs. Good nymph choices include Baetis’, small caddis patterns, and some March Brown stuff.

On the Lower Madison, worms trailed by little Baetis nymphs have been good options. Consider darker crayfish or sculpins as good lead flies too.

The Yellowstone continues to be a bit sluggish but there are a few heads coming up on both midges and Blue Wings although very localized.

On the Gallatin River there are still some midges hanging around. Nymphing is always a good option while searching for rising fish. Stonefly-beadhead dropper rigs are as good an option as ever. The evening streamer bite has been pretty good lately too, especially on smaller stuff like buggers and zonkers.

Butte Rec Report
Fishing on the rivers of Southwest Montana was a little slow this past week due to high winds, cooler temps, and an occasional burst of rain. The numbers of bigger fish being taken on the lakes and reservoirs, however, is reportedly increasing.

Clark Canyon is good fishing for trollers on the South End or over around Lone Tree. Shad Raps, Countdown Rapalas or Flatsfish juiced down with Krill Oil or Shrimp Oil have been the key to larger Rainbow Trout. Night Crawlers suspended around twelve feet have been successful as well. Lead core line rigs work well to getting your lures into the feeding lanes without a downrigger.

Georgetown is thawing and you will find open water around the edges.

The Clark Fork has been good fly fishing upstream of the Perkins Bridge near Warm Springs. Shrimp or Scuds are always a good bet as well as flashback beadheads.

Remember Bob Ward’s fly shops are fully stocked to gear you up! Stop in on your way out.
