Eastern Montana Fishing Report for the Week of 4.8.13

Bill -Rock Creek Marina 1-406-485-2560
“The ice back in the bay has opened. The front main part a bit of it is open. I have seen no fishermen this week,” said Bill.

Bob Peterson-Tongue River Reservoir
The ice is off and boats have been on the water.

Tongue River Marina (406-757-2225) Colton
We are open! The ice is off. It snowed a little on Wednesday. On the weekend they were using cranks on smallmouth bass and worm harnesses on walleyes. The roads are good.

Clint Thomas- Hell Creek Marina (406- 557-2345)
Hell Creek-Fort Peck Reservoir
Ice is off Hell Creek and it is open. Some bank fishing can be done.

Gene Moore – Lake Ridge Motel (406-526-3597)
Gene Moore, of Lake Ridge says, ”The ice is just about off now. I figure it will be all off in a day or two. Only catching an occasional walleye.

The river is open but fishing this week has been only fair.

Lake Elmo – Billings
People are trout fishing. Cold weather slowed things down.

Cooney Reservoir – Jenny
Jenny says, “The ice is off the lake but the cold weather has slowed things up.”

Deadmans/Martinsdale – Justin
Deadmans has open water so fishing is improving.

Martinsdale Conditions are constantly changing with temperatures going from cold to warm.

Don’s Lewistown- Charlie
On Achley the ice is off. They are using small mepps and panther martens. On the Missouri from PN to Fred Robinson they are catching walleye and catfish. They are using live minnows. Ice is off along the bank now.

On Spring Creek they are using small mepps and martans as well. The flyfishermen are using egg patterns.
We hear Crooked Creek has a half mile of mud to the mud. You cannot use it.

Crooked Creek-Grant
Access for fishermen is poor and water levels are going to be an issue this spring. No supplies or owner available.

Lewistown Sports-Dave
Dave says, “They are catching catfish, northern pike, walleye on the Missouri right now.” Catching with fly rod and spin.

Minnow Bucket-Allen Camarillo (406-861-0156)
“Fishing was good before the snow storm. The catfish were turning on,” Allen says. “They are catching small mouth bass on the Yellowstone from Huntley down. I have lots of bait like leeches, shrimp, minnows and crawlers. I also have last minute tackle. The applications for the 7th annual catfish tournament are here,” Allen explains.

Silos Canyon Ferry-Sharon
“We have had 30 degrees and mild wind. Not a lot of people out. Catching mostly trout,” Sharon says. At Broadway Bay you can get boats there’s no ice out there. FWP is out doing netting walleyes about to spawn.

West Side Sports Dan (406-654-1611)
“We are still in between fishing. Nelson has had cold mornings. It is open but slow fishing. The ain body is open. The West is still froze up.

Use caution,” Dan says.

Forchette “The road is muddy. There is not much water. It is really low,” Dan says.

Billings-Scheels – Mike
Mike says, “I am hearing up by Forsythe sauger, walleye and small mouth are being caught. They are catching bass and crappies right now. Around Miles City its open and it is good for walleyes. At Fred Robinson there are some ice heaves on the ramp still causing problems.”

Nate says, “The Yellowstone River has been good fishing to Forsyte. Very few walleye but lots of sauger. People are fishing from the shore at Bear Lake catching rainbow trout.

Rich’s Tackle – Richard
“It is damn cold out there. On my busiest day I did not see a fisheran”, Rich says. Word is that at Canyon Ferry they are catching rainbow trout and a few walleye. Rich explained, “The guys I talked to got 4 walleye and 20 rainbow trout trolling for walleye. The rivers were doing good before the snowstorm.”

Yellowtail/ Big Horn –Dave
Yellowtail has some changes in fish conditions. A group of fishermen did well jigging with minnows the other day in a short time for walleyes.

Big Horn is fishing good on both stretches.

I will be selling minnows. Call ahead at 665-3489 I am opposite Two Leggins right down from the Yellowtail. There is a sign on the highway.
