Canyon Ferry is on the getup and go with Walleye fishing is starting to pick up. Try trolling some crawling harnesses or crank baits 12 – 25 feet deep on the South end by the silos. When you do find the right depth, which seems to change daily with Walleye, try switching over to jigs with plastic leech patterns or night crawlers. Leech season should be starting up within the next month.

The Baetis are out on the big Mo so if the wind isn’t blowing too hard bring some BWOs and start dry fly fishing. If you get into some wind switch over to the nymphs. If you are nymphing try casting from out and working toward the shoreline, several fish have been holding more in the middle of the river. Streamer fishing is starting to take off below Craig in the canyon; we’d recommend throwing some natural or white Zonkers.

Good reports coming in from the Boulder river as well. As it warms up look for midge fishing to take off here. We’d recommend sticking to purple or red midges; try throwing a midge cluster with a single midge dropper.

Some fishing related community events are on the way. April 27th is the Missouri River Trout Unlimited Annual Banquet and May 4th is the Walleye Unlimited Banquet. Support those who support fishing in our area.
