It’s all about fishing!

Below Houser dam the fishing is excellent right now. Mid-afternoons are a great time to go walleye fishing, we’ve gotten reports of non-stop bites during a 1-2 hour window in the mid afternoon. Not a bad dinner for a couple hours of fishing.

The Missouri river is fishing great right now thanks to all this overcast weather. On the upper river the fish go crazy in the morning, nap at lunch, then come back in the afternoon. There is a great midge hatch now; a black midge size 18-20 will do the trick. Mid river there is a Skwala hatch going on that offers some fun fishing. And the BWO’s are down the stream even more. Even though winter came back, the fishing is still great on the Mighty Mo. Trout are mid spawn so be aware of spawning areas along the Missouri. Look for the dry fly fishing to explode with the next spell of warm weather.

The Boulder river has been getting some good reports as well. As it warms up look for midge fishing to take off here. We’d recommend sticking to purple or red midges; try throwing a midge cluster with a single midge dropper.

Remember to gear up at Bob Ward’s Fly Shop and we’ll see you on the river.
