It is that time of year again. I am in Bozeman, Montana for the Simms Ice Out Guide event. I try to make it to this event to see new products and meet others in the guiding community. Guides from all over the world descend on Bozeman every April for this event. I do get some fishing in while I am here.

Bozeman Area Mountains have 98% snow pack. With warmer weather on the way much of that snow will turn into water. This will create a time of run off for the Montana Rivers. If you know where the fish hold you will be able to hook nice one. Montana Fishing Company guide Zac Sexton proved this on the Jefferson River yesterday with his 23inch brown trout.

I will be heading to the upper Madison River with Montana Fishing Company guide Stephen Smith on Friday to try our luck at another great fishing opportunity. Stephen took his girlfriend Kasey fishing on the Madison a few weeks ago and she came up with a 27 inch brown trout. Kasey is a great fly fisher and has taken many nice fish in the Yellowstone, Madison, and Missouri Rivers. She had no idea she would hook into this monster. She landed this monster on a caddis pupa nymph with 5x tippet. Stephen recognized the size of the brown and instantly got it in the net.
