Captain and Steve Hellegaard, from Missoula, went fishing on Holter Lake Wednesday. The weather finally cooperated with sunny skies and very little wind.

They got on the water at 10:30 and headed for the split rock area. Jim Johnson, of Lincoln, had fished that area the day before, and his crew ended up with 12 trout.

The Captain and Steve had a fish on the first 5 minutes and lost it at the boat. The rest of the day was steady. They finally caught and boated their 10 fish around 5pm, losing a few along the way.

Jointed rapalas seemed to work the best. black/silver, orange/white, firetiger received the most action. They fished around 10-12 feet deep. That is where the fish seemed to be hanging.

There were a few boats on the lake and very few campers in the campgrounds. Probably due to the colder weather the area has experienced lately.

The campgrounds should start to fill up this weekend with nice weather in the forecast. Talked to the campground host and they told me campground fees and day use fees will start May10th. The fees have increased to $15 for campground and $5 for days use.
