OK, so it’s great to have a boat to fish from, I can’t argue that. But there’s also all of that upkeep, towing and the inevitable motor problems, right?

The old saying is that if you want to buy a boat, you should just dig a hole in the ground and throw money into it, because that would be cheaper. I was fishing on Fort Peck Reservoir near McGuire Creek last weekend, and I’m going to say I caught as many fish casting lures, spinners and crankbaits from shore as I would have if I was fishing from a boat.

My son even landed a 10-pound, 33-inch northern pike – a real toothy pig. I managed to hook bass, walleye and northerns, all fishing from shore.
