Bozeman

MT FWP announced that there will be restrictions on angling times to coolest parts of the day. The affected waters include the upper Big Hole, lower Madison, Smith, Dearborn, and Sun rivers where fishing will be prohibited between 2 p.m. and midnight. Signs explaining the local restrictions will be posted at fishing access sites.

UMR. The terrestrial patterns are starting to take off; try using ants and beetles. Also use the varying stages of the caddis fly (pupa, larvae, emergers, and adults). The larger fish have been caught on the streamers trailed with attractor nymphs such as pheasant tails and hares ear.

LMR Not the best fishing right now due to the high water temperatures. Hit it really early with some caddis flies, pmds and parachute adams.

Yellowstone The hoppers aren’t full blown yet but keep an eye out use assorted sizes and colors. Streamer fishing has produced great results. Try dead drift and stripping, if you need to spice things up try using smaller nymphs as a dropper. Nymphing with stoneflies has also been great especially in the later evenings. Dries are still effective…think big!

Gallatin River Still has great activity; definitely bring an assortment of attractor flies, stimulators, PMDs, and caddis flies, yellow humpies, and parachute adams. Depending on the time of day try using the varying stages of the PMDs and Caddis flies. We have had some great reports on nymphing with smaller rubber legs and pheasant tails.

Butte

Die hard local fly fisherman are still hitting the rivers early morning. The Bighole, Beaverhead, and local streams have a fair amount of grasshopper activity this past week.

Large purple parachutes have been a good choice on the Big Hole. A few Spruce Moths have given rise to the hungry rainbow or brown trout as well.

Yellow Sallies or a Brown Bear Black Nymphs have been successful on the lower Beaverhead.

Young anglers will be tossing grasshoppers, damsels, and a variety of Nymphs at Georgetown Lake this week in a local fly fishing clinic sponsored by local volunteers and Montana FWP officials. 19 young anglers will learn the ropes of becoming tomorrow’s future fly fishermen.

Clark Canyon is fishing well on the upper end of the reservoir. Bait fishermen are taking home daily limits.
