Meet Casey Anderson, a trained animal handler, who rescued a bear that was planned to be euthanized. That bear, Brutus, changed Anderson’s life and inspired him to open a grizzly bear shelter near Bozeman called the Montana Grizzly Encounter.
Opening the shelter brought many different paths and opportunities for Anderson including being highlighted on Montana’s state tourism website biographies. Another path was tracking and filming wild animals on the Nat Geo WILD television show, “America the Wild.”
The animal handler brought a fox and baby alligator along to a recent interview with LiveScience (video here.) In the interview he describes how his role on the show educates viewers on wildlife in the northwest region of the United States. “Raising a grizzly taught Anderson more than a few things about how bears behave, that they have individual personalities and a range of emotions,” Anderson told LiveScience. His insights into bear behavior helped him track grizzly bears in Yellowstone National Park at nighttime, observing never-seen-before late-night antics of the animals.
