BAKER, Mont.—Anglers and recreationists have reported a large summer fish kill on Baker Lake in southeast Montana. The exact circumstances causing the kill are unknown; however, biologists are certain it is a combination of warm water temperatures and reduced oxygen levels.
Mike Backes, FWP Fisheries Manager, affirms that, “Baker Lake will be restocked this fall with crappie and yellow perch. There is also potential it will be stocked again in the spring of 2014.”
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks requests that anglers and the local community continue to help manage the fishery by calling the FWP regional office at 406-234-0900 when unusual things are observed such as fish kills.
