The Captain and Don Beardsley, of Missoula, took a trip to the lower Flathead River Thursday. It was a beautiful day as the two spent most of the morning and early afternoon fishing for small mouth bass. The fishing started out slow for the first couple of hours.
They were fishing in 10-12 feet of water and only had a couple of bites using a single hook with a bell sinker on a three way swivel. Once they started to fish the deeper drop offs, they found the fish holding up. Most of the bass they caught were in 20-22 feet of water. They ended up with their limit and caught and released quite a few more. The biggest bass was in the 2-pound range.
Also, Captain received a fishing report from Jim Johnson from Lincoln, on Holter Reservoir. Johnson fished Holter on Wednesday for trout. They caught their limit, but they had to work for them. Most of the trout were in the 15-20 feet depth of water. Split Rock and the cabins around Oxbow Bend produced the best. It was slow around Cottonwood Creek according to Johnson. The biggest trout was 20 inches.
