Former Billings resident and Olympian Pat Spurgin Pitney will be inaugurated into the USA Shooting Hall of Fame on Saturday in Colorado Springs, Colo. She joins two other Montanans in the hall, Lones Wigger and John Foster. She was coached in her early years by Billings resident and former All Air Force International Shooting Team member Ralph Saunders. In addition to setting an Olympic record in the 30 meter air rifle competition at Los Angeles in 1984 at age 18, she also won four gold medals at the 1983 Pan American Games and won several collegiate titles while competing for Murray State University in Kentucky. She now lives in Alaska with her husband and three children. In the photo of the Olympic team with President Ronald Reagan, Pitney is at the far right.
