Wild horses are not the only wildlife on Flathead Lake’s Wild Horse Island.

There are bighorn sheep, mule deer and more that also call the island home.  As a matter of fact, there are so many bighorn sheep that FWP has to keep their population in check by taking sheep off the island from time to time.  The predator scene on the 2,164-acre island is slim, consisting of a few coyotes and mountain lions.

The island, only accessible by boat, offers camping, too.  If you are looking for a special camping experience, then this would be a place to start.

If you have admired the well-known island from afar, but have never actually stepped foot on it, then you can get a first-hand glimpse below from video footage posted by the Flathead Guide.
