MORS Weekly Wrap Up

It has been a frigid week with record cold temperatures around Montana. But that didn’t stop University of Montana Grizzly football fans from coming out to support their team at the playoffs on Saturday. It was encouraging to see the stands in Missoula packed with fans decked out in their finest ski and hunting outerwear braving the single digit weather. Wondering how the ice is shaping up for winter fishing season? Here are this weeks summaries:

Leonard from Roberts Bait and Tackle

Leonard from Robert’s Bait and Tackle says there ice now, across the state.  Francis has over 11inches, Baileys

has 6 inches plus, Fresno 6 inches in the bays, no reports on Tiber yet, Bynum has 6-8 inches, Piscan Nylan and Willow Creek all have 6 inches or better, Arod has over 8 inches now, no reports on Holter Ackley or Beaver Creek. Leonard says its probably been 5 or 6 years since the ice board has been this full. Shelby from Rocky Mountain Supply in Dillon

Shelby says there’s ice fishing going on in the area. There’s been reports of 4 inches on the South side of Clark Canyon, but the there’s been no reports on the North side yet. If you’re in the Dillon area, stop into Rocky Mountain Supply for more information or call 406-683-2308.

December 7tht Summaries

-Bill Brown at Bob Wards says rifle hunting season may be over but archery season is still going strong in areas.Georgetown Lake has ice but it’s best to stay on the shoreline as the ice thins the further out you go.

-Brett French Outdoor editor of the Billings Gazette and Chris Johnson of Lost Trail Powder Mountain report on Thursday’s opening with the most snow for opening day in at least 10 years.

-Dale from Don’s in Lewistown says they have ice on Nelson, been a few fighting for fish through the cold.

-Dallas at Highline Cleaners in Chester says before the cold snap there were guys fishing the ice and from boats, but now he expects to see a lot more guys on the ice after the weather to breaks.

-John Harris from Lakeside Resort in Trout Creek says Noxon Rapids Reservoir are building ice, and there are reports from the bays of guys ice fishing.

-Leonard from Robert’s Bait and Tackle says the ice is in, and describes this week’s ice board.

-Pete from Snappy’s says Flathead River is producing Whitefish & Smith Lake’s doing well on perch.

Shelby from Rocky Mountain Supply in Dillon says hunting was great in the Dillon area and recaps his latest hunt with the whole family. Shelby says waterfowl season has really picked up in the area as well.

-Ryan of Bob Wards in Bozeman & Butte says if heading out to the river bring your cleats, and be prepared to go Nymphing. Clark Canyon Reservoir is frozen for those ling fishing through the ice. In Helena the reservoir will be freezing soon, and on the Missouri you have to coax the bite in this colder weather.
