Away from Civilization–Following His Feet: The Legend of Mick Dodge

A recent post on mnn.com left me wondering how common it is for people living in suburbia, working regular jobs to support families at home, to pick up and leave to live off the land and never return to civilization.  Well, Mick Dodge decided to do exactly that about 25 years ago when he left his family to live in solitude in the Hoh rain forest in the Pacific Northwest.  He now lives life without shoes, sleeps in a tree stump and brushes his teeth with a pine cone.  Apparently, he has “dialed into” a community of mountain dwellers, so he isn’t completely isolated.

Dodge reluctantly agreed to be the subject of National Geographic Channel’s series “The Legend of Mick Dodge”, and a clip from the show is featured below…
