UPDATE (1.28.14 – 12:55pm)

The Captain spoke with Hell Creek Marina, and they said the accident happened this past weekend, and the area had 55 to 60 degree temps, with winds gusting up to 60 miles per hour, the day before the incident. This made for unstable and rotten ice on the main lake.

However, in the bays like Hell Creek, the ice is an average 12 inches thick. For up to date current ice conditions and fishing catch rates contact Hell Creek Marina at 406-557-2345 or Rock Creek Marina in the Big Dry Arm at 406-485-2560.

An ice fisherman died this past weekend after falling through the ice at Fort Peck Reservoir.  The Great Falls Tribune reported that Garfield County Sheriff Frank Edwards said the 55 year-old man was with another person ice fishing on Saturday, and the two became “disoriented” somewhere around 11:30pm that night and “drove their ATVs onto a pressure crack in the ice.”

One man was able to exit the water, but was unable to rescue the other man, Edwards said.

The survivor reportedly suffered from hypothermia and frostbite, but refused medical treatment.

The incident happened near Peterson Point at Hell Creek, Edwards said.

The name of the deceased has not been released pending notification of family members.

We will post more information on this story as we get details.
