David-Grubbs-prong-deep-snow---Billings-Gazette-415px“Billings has overtaken the top spot for snowiest winter since record-keeping began in 1934.”

The Billings Gazette’s website reported that the official measurement of 98.9 inches was carried out by National Weather Service officials at the Billings Logan Airport late this morning.

Today’s measurement in Billings broke the winter of 1996-1997’s record, where 98.7 inches of snow was recorded.

Keep in mind that winter isn’t necessarily over in Montana, even though it is technically spring, as many Montana locations, including Billings, have been known to get snow through April and May.
