Springtime Tune-ups

Spring has arrived and with it the usual tasks that come with warmer weather. Power raking the lawn, washing winter off the truck, and cleaning flower beds (Gramma’s chore) are just part of the activities we all are faced with as the days grow longer. But there are some spring tasks that I really enjoy; one of the most enjoyable for me, the NRA firearms instruction courses I offer, as well as returning to the shooting range.

I recently attended a USPSA seminar and after 4 months of dark, cold, and snowy days, as well as rehab work on my new knee, sending some rounds downrange was a welcome respite. I also found that after that 4 months of inactivity, my skills got a little rusty. It’s time to remove the rust, not only for me, but for all shooters and hunters. With improvement in mind, I have some offerings for shooters in Montana.

BSC

For you novices who may have recently purchased a new handgun I suggest you take the NRA Basic Pistol course. You will learn how to responsibly own and use your new gun. We’ll teach you proper shooting techniques, what ammunition is appropriate for the various uses of your gun, how to clean it and store it, and where you can find other opportunities to further your shooting skills. If you don’t own a gun, this course will help you in choosing one that fits your purposes. I have a NRA Basic Pistol course scheduled for Sunday, April 6th in Missoula.

PPITH

For those of you who are interested in learning how to use your handgun for defensive purposes, the NRA Personal Protection in the Home and NRA Personal Protection Outside the Home courses are excellent choices for those interested in taking charge of their own defense and the defense of their families.

PPOTHThese courses offer advice on what kind of pistol is appropriate for self-defense, a discussion of the law as it applies to armed defense and gun ownership, and range time learning defensive pistol skills. A NRA Personal Protection in the Home course will be taught Sunday, April 27th in Missoula.

Finally, reloading classes. Reloading is a fun, safe hobby that really lowers ones shooting costs. I conduct NRA reloading classes, both Metallic and Shotgun Shell, at the Lifelong Learning Center in Missoula. We have scheduled a Shotshell reloading class for Saturday, May 17th. If you wish to attend that class, just go to: www.thelifelonglearningcenter.com. Use the course code MISC01.2 and register online.

If you are interested in any of these courses, just visit: www.guncoach.net or call me at 406-543-7432. I’d be happy to chat with you about any of these classes or the other courses offer by the Smoothbore Shooting School. Hope to see you on the range.

Be safe and good shooting.
